Tips on Dressing Your Kids for Your Seattle Family Portraits
Welcome back Selem Family! We photographed this sweet family a year ago for Jillian's Maternity Photos. We are so thrilled to have them back, and this time as a family of four! We arrived at Meyedenbauer Beach Park early Sunday morning for their Seattle family portraits. We played on the beach, exploring the little pier and just enjoying each others company! The two little ones were so full of joy and love - it was so much fun to watch through my lens. There was a moment during the shoot where Luca gave Mila a big ol' kiss on the mouth.
It was a bit chilly (but not raining!!) which sometimes can affect kiddos moods during family portraits. Luckily, Jillian had dressed her babes perfectly! We often get wardrobe questions from perspective families asking what they should wear to their family photo shoot. Our number one rule? Be comfortable! Our number 2 rule? Be yourself! These are your family photos so you want them to look like you! You're not going to feel and act like yourselves if you're way fancier than you normally dress. Looking more elevated than the everyday is recommended, but don't go too far to where you feel out of place.
We also love a mix in patterns. Stripes, animal print, polka dots - all fair game! It adds to the fun of the shoot if there is a mix of colors and patterns. You can see Luca is wearing stripes and sweet Mila has patterned pants and cute maroon shoes. Its fun, casual, and most of all comfortable! Even though there are different colors and patterns, it comes together cohesively in the images.
Lastly, I love how Jillian and Pablo are wearing neutral colors. This is key in making patterns and colors work. Too many patterns takes away from the overall images, so adding in a few streamline pieces helps bring it all together!
The most important thing to remember is to have fun! Don't get too caught up on everybody matching or having perfectly coordinating outfits that you miss out on the experience. Just think neutrals with pops of color and patterns for the next time you come to us for your Seattle Family Portraits!
