Playful Seattle Family Photos at Molly Moon's Homemade Ice Cream in Redmond

I've had the joy of photographing the Lieb family for years now, capturing birthday parties and messy play dates in the park. Luke & Lyla are always surprising me with the quirky little things they're learning to say and do. This time when they showed up for a mini family photo shoot session at Molly Moon's Homemade Ice Cream in Redmond, Lyla walked up in a messy bun, colorful sunglasses on her face and her two little peace fingers flying in the air with some UW spirit. Talk about gorgeous little attitude! I love it. And of course, Luke dropped his ice cream like 3 times and needed more sprinkles and then the entire family did grapevines and elephant ice cream walks outside on the street. Lieb family, you guys are seriously the best; always full of playful energy and you make me laugh from behind the camera. See you soon for the next birthday party!! xx Chamonix

Trying to Get Kids to Smile During Family Photos at Molly Moon's Homemade Ice Cream Redmond

These little ones are tricky to get smiles out of but thankfully a little ice cream, some silly faces and running around on the street brought out some joy. I always find it hilarious when parents have more energy or enthusiasm than the kids. Some of my favorite behind the scenes photos/videos are when I back up and capture the parents trying to get the kids to laugh. Kids are such an amazing way to make adults crumble into goofiness. Sometimes we try everything; silly faces, silly voices, tickling, point at stuff, bribery, ignoring them completely etc.. You know how it is - not a whole lot we can do to make kids smile for the camera. Thankfully, most of the families I get to work with are cool with that fact and we all embrace the reality that the kids are gonna do whatever they want and hey...maybe smiling at the camera is over-rated. Thank you Seng family for another family photo shoot with the Happy Film Company. See you guys again soon!! :) Thank you so much Molly Moon's Homemade Ice Cream for hosting us!! Chamonix

Photographing Kids While They're Playing with their Favorite Toys

Baby Asher loves ropes and pipes and hoses so he was in heaven the moment we discovered a pile of hose at the end of the dock at Kirkland Marina Park. The Lee family had a 15 minute mini session and we spend the first part of their Seattle family photo shoot walking down the pier and cuddling but eventually those magically hoses appeared and he was infatuated. I love when kids find something they love so intensely during a photo shoot because we get to watch them disappear into their own little world for a moment. They forget about the camera, nobody is telling them what to do and all that matters is that special cool thing. During these moments I like to snap my camera like crazy, hoping to catch a little something sparkly in their eyes. Plus, I love knowing that these photos are going to be a fun memory and story for parents to tell. "When you were a little baby you LOVED hoses and pipes!" haha And it's also just fun to see how different children are - they all love something different. So if your little one has something they love, let's think about a cool place to go where we can let them explore and enjoy it. All the best photographs happen this way - letting the kids guide the show and get lost in their infatuations. Thank you so much Lee family for another cute Seattle family photo shoot. We hope we get to photograph Asher & his hoses for years to come! - Chamonix & tHFC Ladies
