A Day in the Life

Why You Should Do a 'Day in the Life' Family Photo Shoot at Home

Your family photo shoot doesn't have to be fancy. You can change a diaper, breastfeed, try on new baby clothes, read the first page of a Christmas book, stack three blocks and knock them over and then spin in a circle until you fall over. To you it might seem like a normal boring and un-photograph-worthy hour at home with your toddler and newborn. Why on earth would you pay someone to take pictures of that?

As a Seattle family portrait photographer, I do love photo shoots at gorgeous locations around the city (they make for awesome backgrounds and beautiful lighting) but more often than not, it's these simple everyday activities at home that make for the most personal, emotion-packed and creative family photography. When you're in your own home, doing your daily routines, you might not realize how many special facial expressions and interactions bubble up; things that might never appear if we were out exploring a park. Plus, taking photos at home gives you a chance to capture the space where you spend most of your time, where you're making most of your memories.

I'm certainly not saying you should never do photo shoots at cool outdoor locations - I love those photo shoot adventures and they typically result in higher quality images (perfect for Christmas cards and wall canvases). I'm merely suggesting that perhaps every now and then, you bring a photographer into your home for a "Day in the Life" photo shoot, just to make sure that you also have some special photos of those memories you made in private. Thank you so much Tucker family for hiring the Happy Film Company again! It was a treat spending time with you in your home and I look forward to more pictures later this year :) // Chamonix

A Day in the Life of the Ashbach Family - Seattle Family Portraits - the Happy Film Company

Giggles and giggles and more giggles. Little Kate is so sweet and Ashley and I had so much fun watching her parents make her laugh. They threw her up into the air, bounced her on their laps, read books, blew bubbles, and flew on the swing. Originally, we were just going to blow bubbles but the Seattle rain clouds inspired us to get creative and do "A Day in the Life" photo shoot instead. I'm so happy we changed our plan because it gave us a chance to capture Kate and her family enjoying all the simple little things that make this moment in their lives so special. Thank you so much Ashbach family for choosing the Happy Film Company for your Seattle family portraits. I hope this video and the photos always help you remember the beautiful beginning of your family and I can't wait to photograph you all again in the future as your family grows! xoxo Chamonix & the Happy Film Company team!

A Day in the Life Film of the Rosenzweig Family - the Happy Film Company - Family Photographers Seattle

I was squatting down onto the grass as low as a could go, hoping that the sunshine would sparkle down through the water and I would capture the epitome of childhood summertime sprinkler-play! (Fingers crossed my camera didn't get wet. haha) The Rosenzweig family invited me into their GORGEOUS home on Capitol Hill (a super cute part of Seattle) and I was blown away by all the happy colored walls and the wood staircase in this house. Soon, this sweet family will be packing their bags for Portland but before they move they wanted to capture their happy memories of their life in Seattle in this beautiful home. When I arrived, they had a list of fun activities that they love to do and we picked our favorites and ran around the house (literally) capturing it all on video.Thank you so much Rosenzweig family for choosing the Happy Film Company to be your family photographers Seattle. I'm so excited to give your happy family film and I hope it brings a smile to the face of everyone who sees it :D Happy summertime! Enjoy the show! :D xoxo Chamonix

The Rosenzweig family purchase their family film shoot through the Cooperative Children's Center 2014 Auction. We love what this Co-op is doing for kids and families in Seattle. Click here to check out why we donated a shoot to this auction.
